Relations throughout the year, particularly those with new EU member states, have enabled significant perspectives for the City of St. Pölten, its businesses and citizens. Exchange of thoughts, relations with the relevant decision makers is an important advantage for St. Pölten.

In 2001 St.Pölten was awarded the Europe Prize, the highest European distinction, by the Council of Europe for its openness toward Europe.

Since 1957 St. Pölten implemented city partnerships with six cities from three continents.

St. Pölten was in charge by creation the networks of European medium-sized towns in 1995.

Europaregion "centrope"
In 2003 St. Pölten was founder member of the European region "centrope".
