The history of the company started when Fritz Egger sen. restructured his lumber mill into a chip board manufacturer. In the following years, amongst others, the factory in Unterradlberg near St. Pölten was founded. The sons of the founder of the company began to expand internationally (GB, F and D), and today the company prides itself as being one of the largest timber production companies in Europe. Currently, approximately 4.800 people are employed here. Revenues are generated aside from the 14 board manufacturers also within the beverages sector (Egger Bier, Radlberger).

The core competencies of Prangl GmbH are leasing of mobile cranes and raised platforms, as well as organizing specialty transports. The Niederösterreichische Pressehaus was founded in 1874. It is today a media enterprise comprising production, service and commerce. Ever since the factory has been continuously expanded and is synonymous for internationally recognized quality, granting the privilege of being referring to as a specialist for volume papers. The worldwide largest SPAR-branch was been founded in 1979 in St. Pölten. It is the SPAR-wholesale warehouse for the region of Vienna, Lower Austria and northern Burgenland. The SPAR-branch in St. Pölten is one of the most important employers in the area with ca. 5.000 employees operating within the distributing warehouse and the retail stores (Vienna, Lower Austria, northern Burgenland).
